Legion Riders

The American Legion Riders started in the fall of 1993 in Garden City Michigan. The original chapter at Post 396 consisted of Chuck Dare, Bill Kaledas and 19 other founding members. The rest is history.

Today there are now nearly 600 Legion Rider programs, organized by chapters, districts, or departments, that support Americanism and Children and Youth programs in virtually every state in the nation and several overseas chapters.

One of the fastest-growing and most highly visible of the many programs offered by The American Legion, The American Legion Riders are a very diverse group, and so are the programs that they support. What do American Legion Riders do? The activities are far too many to mention in this space, but here are a few examples:

   - Legion Riders participate in the annual POW/MIA Rally held each Memorial weekend in Washington D.C. known as "Rolling Thunder".

   - They participate in the annual rides such as Operation Wounded Warrior and many other national, regional, and local events.

   - Legion Riders sponsor and or participate in charity events across the country. They ride to raise money for such organizations as local VA hospitals, Battered Women and Children's centers, Veterans Relief, youth centers, schools, and many others.

   - Legion Riders founded a national movement called “Patriot Guard” (www.patriotguard.org) that honors and protects the sanctity of military funerals and memorial services.

The American Legion Riders of Post 318 was started in 2001 and a few of the Charter Members are still riding. The group has 50+ members, riders and support members. We participate in many local charity events. Among them, you will see us at, are the Salvation Army's annual Mash Bash, the Toys for Tots Christmas ride, as well as our own annual Poker Run fund raiser is support of local vetrerans. We have supported the Florida State Legacy run, Boy's State, Special Olympics, Mustard Seed, Salvation Army Soup Kitchen, Southeastern Military Academy, and have escorted many Honor Flight Missions.

We have rode in the local St. Patrick's Day Parade, annual Christmas Parade, and have participated in many Memorial Services, standing a flag line behind our Honor Guard.

We are a strong group of dedicated individuals with great pride and an overwhelming sense of dedication to our community. We are committed to support our local veterans whenever there is a need.

All Post 318 Legion Riders are either members of our Post as Legionaries, Sons of the American Legion, Auxiliary, or spouses of these members. Interested in joining us? Click on the Link below.
