Commander's  Message

I am honored that you have elected me your Commander for 2008-2009.  I have met with the members of OUR team, that group of individuals you the membership have bestowed your faith and trust in to manage the affairs of our Post.  Let me assure you, like myself, they are dedicated, motivated, and determined to continue on a course that will make each member proud to be associated with and members of American Legion Post 318.
As most of you are aware, our Legion year runs from August thru July for all elected Officers.  All membership dues are now due for the 2008-2009 year.  I ask all members, of all organizations to renew your membership as soon as possible.  Early-bird cutoff ends at the end of September, so I ask you to send in your dues now.
At the State Convention, I had the pleasure of meeting several Department, Area, and District Officers, who stated how impressed they were with the efforts of all organizations from Post 318.  They expressed their heartfelt thanks for the many successful programs each group had accomplished this past year.  I want each member of Post 318 to be proud of those efforts and let others know how well we have done.
We are continuing the search for a new post home. As has been previously stated, ď
this new facility must be in close proximity to our current Post.Ē  Our search committee is comprised of Bob Booth, Frank Howard, Daryl Bowie and myself. If any member has or knows of an area that would be suitable for our new post, please contact one of the individual mentioned above.  We are currently looking at two separate pieces of property and we will keep you informed as to our progress.
This month our ďMember of the MonthĒ is Andrea Pierson, Aux. Post 318.  Andrea continually can be seen around the Post helping make it a better place.  Her kind words and personality always adds to the friendliness associated with our Post.  Congratulation Andrea and thanks for a job well done.

Jim Burk, Commander

Auxiliary  President's  message

Hello Ladies! I am honored to become your next Auxiliary President. With a new year, and a new slate of officers, we also face new challenges. The state of the economy has affected all of us in one way or another. This means we need to re-double our efforts to help veterans, help our Post, and help each other.
When I visit the Post, I hear from many members who have wonderful suggestions. The enthusiasm for making our Post the best it can be is overwhelming. I will count on each of you to help implement changes for a better Auxiliary Unit and ultimately a better post. (More details to follow!) And, along the way Iíll do my best to make it fun!
Saving the best for last - I would like to express what a privilege it is for me to succeed Sunny Lavallee, our President for the past 2 terms. Sunny was not only instrumental in updating our by-laws and house rules, but also has set a very professional example as a leader. I have big shoes to fill - (not literally, Sunny!) I wish to thank Sunny and all of the officers, volunteers and members who have volunteered their valuable time and efforts to the Aux this past year. I look forward to working with each and every one of you to make the 2008 = 2009 term a rousing success!
Call me if you need me...Cell: 561-371-7240

Hello Post 318,
Harold Barth and I attended the State Convention in Orlando. We were recognized for 100% membership, our donations to the Childrenís Miracle Network, Special Olympics, family and youth. We had another great turnout for our SAL Dinner. We served 81 dinners. I would like to thank everyone who comes out and supports our dinners. Without you and our volunteers this would not be possible. Our next lasagna dinner will be August 13. Please try to attend!
This being my last newsletter, I have enjoyed working with everyone this past year; as 2nd Vice I will continue working this coming year to help SAL and the Post to have another successful year.
We have our 2009 SAL Membership cards. Please stop and pay your dues and pick up your membership card. There will be no meeting in August. Our next meeting will be Monday, September 15 at 7pm. Please try to attend and welcome our new officers.

Honor/Color  Guard

Well ladies and gentlemen the dog days of summer are upon us again, and Iíll try to keep things short and simple. The PGA in St. Lucie West is having a Patriots Golf Day on August 30. The Honor Guard has been asked to assist in the opening parade at 7:45am, followed by a rifle salute to start the whole event off. We will then set up at the first hole and some of the back holes and have a real shotgun start at approximately 9am. There will be food and things for the whole family to enjoy, so come on out and enjoy the day. For those of you who play golf and have played there, know how nice the courses are. For cost to play call (772)-240-1082.
As always if you have any need for our services we are there for you if we have the available manpower. Thank you.

 John T. Aitken, Sgt-At-Arms
